PDF Editor Pro

Last Updated: March 1, 2026

Introduction

PDF Editor Pro ("the Extension", "we", "our") is a Chrome browser extension that provides PDF editing, merging, splitting, annotation, and conversion capabilities. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the Extension works.

Data Collection

We do not collect, transmit, or share any personal data or user information whatsoever.

The Extension operates entirely offline and locally on your device. No data of any kind is sent to any server, third-party service, or external endpoint.

How the Extension Works

  • All PDF processing is performed locally within your browser using client-side JavaScript libraries (pdf.js and pdf-lib).
  • Your files never leave your device. When you open, edit, merge, split, or convert a PDF, all operations happen in your browser's memory.
  • No files are uploaded to any server. There is no backend, no cloud storage, and no remote API involved in any PDF operation.
  • No analytics or tracking of any kind is used. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracking technology.
  • No cookies are set or read by the Extension.
  • No user accounts are required. There is no registration, login, or authentication.

Permissions Used

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, used strictly for core functionality:

PermissionPurpose
downloadsTo save edited PDFs and exported images to your device via Chrome's download manager. Also used to detect when you download a PDF from a webpage, so it can be shown in your local recent-files list.
contextMenusTo add right-click options (e.g., "Open PDF in PDF Editor Pro") when you right-click a PDF link on any webpage, and quick-access items on the extension icon.
storageTo save your preferences (e.g., default zoom level, sidebar visibility, export format) and a local recent-files list on your device. No personal data is stored.

No other permissions are requested. The Extension does not request access to your browsing history, bookmarks, tabs content, passwords, or any other sensitive data.

Network Requests

The Extension makes zero network requests during normal operation. The only exception is when you explicitly choose to open a PDF from a URL (e.g., via the right-click context menu on a PDF link). In that case, the browser fetches the PDF file directly — the Extension does not proxy this request through any server.

Third-Party Libraries

The Extension includes the following open-source libraries, bundled locally (not loaded from CDN):

  • pdf.js (Mozilla, Apache 2.0 License) — for rendering PDF pages.
  • pdf-lib (MIT License) — for editing and manipulating PDF documents.

These libraries run entirely in your browser and do not make any network requests.

Data Storage

The Extension uses chrome.storage.local to store a small amount of non-personal data locally on your device:

  • User preferences: UI settings such as default zoom level, sidebar visibility, export format, and theme. These contain no personal information.
  • Recent files list: The names, sizes, and page counts of PDFs you have previously opened. No file contents are stored — only metadata for convenience.
  • Usage counters: Anonymous aggregate counts (e.g., "total files opened: 5") with no personally identifiable information.
  • Diagnostic log: Timestamped entries for troubleshooting, containing no personal data or file contents.

All stored data remains entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to any server. You can clear all stored data at any time through the extension's settings. When you uninstall the Extension, Chrome automatically removes all stored data.

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since the Extension collects no personal data from any user, it is compliant with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).

GDPR Compliance

Since the Extension collects, processes, and stores absolutely no personal data, it is fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The only data stored locally on the user's device consists of non-personal preferences and anonymous counters, which do not constitute personal data under GDPR. There is no data to access, rectify, delete, or port at the server level, because no data is ever transmitted.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
